Thanks for bringing Russian Ark to my attention, Jim. I looked it up and intend to see it. I was myopic about long master shows when I posted as I was shipping the second edition of Cut by Cut: Editing Your Film or Video to publisher for a spring (I hope) or summer 2012 release. I neglected to mention Hitchcock’s Rope which I discussed in my second book, Film Editing: Great Cuts Every Filmmaker and Movie Lover Must Know.

Hardly anyone would know what I’m talking about today. But you know those abandoned CMX 6000s? I did the final setup on half of them and the optical setup on all of them. Just between us, we were all pretty disappointed with the wag-the-dog B-channel timebase ‘corrector’ but by the time we’d gotten the board fab not to set fire to itself with misaligned layers and feedthrus, the attitude was “ship it”. Also, Editdroid had seized the market and CMX sold almost all the 6000s to itself for location rentals. Then we all got (surrr-priiize) laid off. Fun to have had a toenail clipping in the history of NLE though.
